Iontov\u00e1 v\u00fdm\u011bna \u2013 je dal\u0161\u00ed v\u00fdznamn\u00e1 vlastnost tohoto miner\u00e1lu, uvnit\u0159 dutinek se nach\u00e1z\u00ed voln\u00e9 ionty v\u00e1pn\u00edku, sod\u00edku, ho\u0159\u010d\u00edku, drasl\u00edku a barya, kter\u00e9 jsou uvol\u0148ov\u00e1ny do vn\u011bj\u0161\u00edho prost\u0159ed\u00ed, a odtud je naopak absorbov\u00e1n amoniak, t\u011b\u017ek\u00e9 kovy, n\u011bkter\u00e9 dal\u0161\u00ed toxick\u00e9 dus\u00edkat\u00e9 l\u00e1tky a tak\u00e9 radioaktivn\u00ed prvky \u2013 radionuklidy, jako je thalium, galium, technecium, fluor \u010di indium. Filtra\u010dn\u00ed frakce \u2013 zeolit lze velmi snadno rozdrtit do po\u017eadovan\u00e9 velikosti zrn (frakce) a vyu\u017e\u00edt jej jako filtra\u010dn\u00ed m\u00e9dium, nahrazuj\u00edc\u00ed k\u0159emi\u010dit\u00fd p\u00edsek. Krom\u011b iontov\u00e9 v\u00fdm\u011bny a zachycov\u00e1n\u00ed ne\u010distot v dutink\u00e1ch poslou\u017e\u00ed i pro \u010dist\u011b mechanick\u00e9 filtrov\u00e1n\u00ed, tak\u017ee jeho filtra\u010dn\u00ed schopnosti jsou troj\u00edho druhu. \u017d\u00e1dn\u00fd jin\u00fd nerost to nedok\u00e1\u017ee. Univerzalita \u2013 velkou v\u00fdhodou zeolitu je jeho \u0161irok\u00e9 pole p\u016fsobnosti v r\u016fzn\u00fdch odv\u011btv\u00edch stavebn\u00ed a pr\u016fmyslov\u00e9 v\u00fdroby, zem\u011bd\u011blstv\u00ed, medic\u00edny.
